The Voice of Catholic Youth Across Tonga & Niue

The Diocesan Youth Council (DYC) is a body of committed young people, youth leaders, and clergy working together under the guidance of the Catholic Diocese of Tonga and Niue. We gather periodically throughout the year to plan and lead youth events, discern the future of youth ministry, and amplify the voice of young Catholics across our island communities.

As ambassadors of youth ministry in the diocese, DYC members serve as a bridge between the parish communities of Tongatapu, Haʻapai, Vavaʻu, and Niue β€” helping to shape a shared vision rooted in the Gospel, Pacific culture, and the tradition of the Church.

Our work is grounded in the belief that parents are the primary educators of faith, and that young people are not just the Church of tomorrow β€” they are the Church of today.

"Keep the Journey! Young people must remain on the path of faith, drawing strength from the sacraments and from one another."

β€” Cardinal Soane Patita Paini Mafi, Diocese of Tonga & Niue

The Diocese of Tonga & Niue

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga is immediately subject to the Holy See. Its roots stretch back to 1842, when the Vicariate Apostolic of Central Oceania was first established, carrying the Gospel to the Pacific islands.

Today the Diocese spans the Kingdom of Tonga and the island of Niue, with over 16,000 Catholics spread across 13 parish communities on Tongatapu, Ha'apai, Vava'u, and Niue. It is led by Cardinal Soane Patita Paini Mafi β€” Tonga's first-ever Cardinal, appointed by Pope Francis in 2015.

The Diocese is committed to Catholic education, social justice through Caritas Tonga, and the evangelisation of all people β€” with young people at the heart of its future.
